At Windborne Studios, we believe the smallest details make the most significant impact. They’re the elements people touch, see, and admire every day—the finishing touches that elevate a space from beautiful to extraordinary. That’s why we design and handcraft small batches of fused glass cabinet hardware for discerning professionals and clients. Our pieces aren’t just functional; they’re heirloom-quality works of art that add a touch of luxury to any interior.
Every piece of Windborne hardware starts its journey in the kiln. Whether it’s the ethereal Wispy White from our Glassia Collection or the dazzling White Gold Fleck from the Pebble Collection, heat is the transformative force that brings these creations to life.
From Vision to Glass
Some designs begin simply, with sheets of glass carefully stacked in precise layers. These stacks are placed in the kiln, where intense heat fuses the layers into a single, cohesive piece.
Others, like our Pebble Collection, demand a more intricate process. This begins with frit—tiny, colorful fragments of glass. The frit is meticulously measured and mixed to achieve just the right color palette. Once mixed, the frit is poured into a square mold on the kiln shelf. After leveling the mixture by hand, a layer of clear frit is added on top, creating the signature texture that defines the Pebble Collection.
The Magic of Heat
Once the kiln has worked its magic, the glass is cooled overnight. By morning, the once-fragile frit has transformed into solid, vibrant sheets of glass. But this is just the beginning of their journey.
Precision Cutting with Water
To shape the glass into knobs and pulls, we use a water jet. This high-pressure tool cuts the glass with remarkable precision, leaving clean edges that highlight the quality of each piece. However, this process also leaves behind small tabs and dull edges, which must be refined for a flawless finish.
Shaping and Refining
Next, each piece is carefully shaped using a wet lap-disc sander. The diamond-grit disc swiftly removes the tabs and smooths the edges, preparing them for the next transformation. While functional, these sanded edges lack the polished brilliance that defines Windborne hardware.
The Final Fire
To restore the smooth, glossy finish, the pieces return to the kiln for a fire polish. This low-heat firing gently melts the edges, smoothing them without altering their carefully crafted shapes. The result is a piece of glass that’s as elegant as it is durable—ready to shine in your home.
Bringing It All Together
The final step is turning these glass works of art into functional hardware. Using precise templates and a proprietary two-part glue, we attach metal backings to the underside of the glass. Once the glue sets, any excess is meticulously cleaned, and each piece undergoes a final inspection.

After careful packaging to ensure their safety, your Windborne hardware is ready to be shipped. Each piece represents hours of craftsmanship and is designed to bring the perfect finishing touch to your space.
